What Services Are Available at Our Skincare Clinic?

Dermatologists can generally categorize issues associated with the skin in the following ways:

Skin Cancer

Southern Californians are some of the 2 million people each year exposed to considerable amounts of sun damage. Early skin cancer detection is a priority as it can prevent more severe issues. When treating skin cancer, an essential aspect is an accurate diagnosis, followed by a critical determination of what procedure will be most effective with the slightest degree of invasiveness.

If you are concerned about skin cancer or the nature of a mole or blemish, schedule a consultation with us. While many skin marks are harmless, catching skin cancer early on is vital to ensuring a positive outcome. Dr. Hal Weitzbuch is one of the finest board-certified dermatologists in Calabasas and a member of the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

Suitable treatments vary based on the type of cancer, but some of the methods we offer include:

Excision

Effective for most basal and squamous cell cancers in less visible and functionally essential body areas. After anesthetizing the affected areas, your dermatologist cuts the tumor from the skin along with some surrounding tissue before closing the incision and applying a bandage. Dr. Weitzbuch examines the tissue for cancerous cells in a lab to determine whether further treatment is needed.

Mohs micrographic surgery

This treatment offers the highest clearance rate for treating skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Mohs surgery is best for the face because it spares as much skin as possible by ensuring that only cancerous tissue is removed. Other techniques may risk losing more healthy tissue in the removal process. When paired with local anesthesia, Mohs surgery removes the skin cancer with narrow margins and freezes the tissue before examining it under a microscope. The lesion is removed layer by layer until no cancer cells remain. After examination, Dr. Hal Weitzbuch can immediately determine whether additional layers need to be removed.

Electrodesiccation and Curettage

This treatment addresses small skin cancers, such as basal and squamous cell carcinomas on the body and scalp. A spoon-like tool removes the tumor before a needle-shaped electrode treats the remaining area with an electrical current by cauterizing blood vessels and destroys any remaining cancerous cells on the periphery of the wound while also stopping bleeding. This process is repeated for a total of 3 cycles before the wound is covered with a dressing.

Mohs surgery is best for the face because it spares as much skin as possible by ensuring that only cancerous tissue is removed. Photodynamic Therapy

Commonly used for actinic keratosis, photodynamic therapy uses light-activated topicals to identify and destroy superficial skin cancer cells. After the topical saturates the cancer cells, light is applied to the area, causing a reaction that kills cancerous cells. You’ll sit in front of a specially designed blue light for approximately 16 minutes while wearing protective eyewear. The light reacts with the solution and encourages cells to produce reactive oxygen, destroying the abnormal cells. Because the solution causes photosensitivity, you must protect treated areas from sunlight for 40 hours after application.

Cryotherapy

The Cryostat device often uses liquid nitrogen to freeze cancerous cells, such as actinic keratosis, without cutting any tissue. Lesions may blister and usually heal within fourteen days, and we may repeat the treatment as often as necessary.

Medical Dermatology

At Brilliance Dermatology, we provide comprehensive support and treatment options for nearly all problematic skin conditions. We stay current with the latest proven techniques and technology so you can rest assured you are getting the best treatment. Regardless of your situation or age, most skin conditions can be quickly resolved or effectively managed in a few visits.

Cosmetic Procedures

Healthy skin with good elasticity brings out your inner beauty, but the environment, genetics, lifestyle, and age can cause sagging and premature aging. Brilliance Dermatology knows that aesthetics are everything, and a simple change can make a significant difference.

Cosmetic procedures include:

Botox

Botox addresses mild to moderate wrinkles, particularly on the neck, forehead, around the mouth, or the eyes. Other anti-aging injectables or treatments can be paired with Botox to help create an overall youthful, fresh look. Younger patients use Botox to halt the development of fine lines and wrinkles – before they start.

Laser skin resurfacing

Fractional C02 Laser treatments effectively treat the signs of aging, sun exposure, and the impact of environmental pollutants. Dr. Weitzbuch is committed to providing his clients with the most advanced treatments, including the latest generation in skin resurfacing technology in the Lumenis UltraPulse. You’ll see a dramatic improvement in skin texture, tone, and smoothness.

Scar treatment

We offer our patients state-of-the-art treatment options to remove or diminish scars. These options include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and the CO2 dry ice slush peel.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers, also known as facial fillers, help tone the face while improving the overall appearance and providing higher confidence and comfort. At Brilliance Dermatology, we offer Restylane and Restylane Silk, Sculptra, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Voluma XC, and Dysport.

IPL Photofacial

This procedure uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat various skin conditions in a single, state-of-the-art treatment. A photofacial can address damage from sun exposure, sun spots and freckles, hyperpigmentation, and enlarged pores.

Chemical peels

Our Malibu chemical peel is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure used to refresh the appearance of facial skin. Our skincare professionals can use chemical peels to treat wrinkles, fine lines, discolored skin, acne, and minor scars. Peels are most commonly used to remove dead skin while improving the look of sun-damaged skin.

Liposuction

Unsightly fatty deposits on the tummy, love handles, back, arms, thighs, or beneath the chin can cause significant frustration. Our team can successfully address these fatty deposits with SmartLipo, our state-of-the-art system for liposuction in Thousand Oaks.

Kybella

Kybella is a revolutionary and innovative treatment for patients who struggle with an unsightly double chin. This injectable works within the body to restore a trimmer, more youthful facial profile without undergoing surgery.

Xeomin

Xeomin is an injectable similar to Botox. The active ingredients smooth frown lines and produce results in as little as four days.

Radio Frequency Microneedling

RF Microneedling combines two highly effective treatments that encourage your’s skin natural healing process and collagen production. The result is fresh and renewed skin to restore a smooth, firm, and youthful appearance.

Hair Loss Treatment

Brilliance Dermatology offers the latest hair loss treatments available. Our expert dermatologists will work with you to diagnose, prescribe, and manage treatments to keep you looking your best. While some are not bothered by their hair loss, others prefer treatments from a professional dermatologist to stop further hair loss and promote new hair growth.

One such treatment is Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, also known as PRP. With a quick and straightforward process, we can derive a high concentration of biologically nutrient-rich cells and create autologous platelet-rich plasma. This is activated to release essential growth factors and signal proteins, which are injected into the scalp in several locations to stabilize loss and promote hair growth. Rejuvenation occurs over the 3-6 months after treatment.

Pediatric Dermatology: Treating Childhood Skin Issues

Our pediatric dermatologists are highly experienced in treating children, from newborns to adolescents, for all skin disorders that can occur in childhood.

Examples of a few of the more common issues include:

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Ringworm
  • Molluscum contagiosum
  • Warts
  • Moles and birthmarks
  • Impetigo
