Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses ultrasound to lift, smooth, and tighten skin in problem areas such as the chest, neck, chin, and brows.
How Does Ultherapy Work?
Ultherapy works by gently damaging the layer of connective tissue that underlies your skin, causing it to produce extra collagen as it heals. The collagen firms and fills out the skin, producing a more youthful appearance and erasing lines and sagging. While Ultherapy is not as effective as a facelift, it has the advantage of requiring no surgery and little to no recovery time.
Since Ultherapy’s waves pass through the skin to target the precise area needed for treatment, it doesn’t produce as much burning and irritation as laser treatments can.
The Simplicity of Ultherapy Cosmetic Treatments
After a consultation with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Weitzbuch, Ultherapy can be performed in a single treatment at Calabasas Dermatology Center during an office visit. The treatment can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on how large the area to be treated is.
The doctor will cover the area with ultrasound gel, and then use an imaging tool to examine the underlayer of the skin in the area and determine how best to proceed. Next, the device will beam ultrasound energy into the area. There will probably be some sensation of energy while this is occurring; patients react to it differently, but it stops once the beam is shut off.
Short Recovery Time & Less Fine Lines
One of the main advantages of Ultherapy over other cosmetic procedure is the lack of downtime. For most patients, the only side effect is flushed or reddened skin, which quickly fades. A few patients experience minor swelling and tenderness, or even bruising, but such side effects should clear up shortly as well.
Ultherapy results will appear gradually over the next two to three months as the new collagen forms. While the effects are subtle, patients should expect to see firmer skin, fewer fine lines, and more defined features.
