What Is Kybella?
Kybella is an injection intended to cosmetically remove fat cells from the upper neck and chin area, reducing the appearance of a double chin. When administered by a board-certified dermatologist, Kybella is quick, safe, and provides permanent chin enhancement.
Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid formulated from non-biological sources. This substance helps the body break down and absorb fat, and occurs naturally in the body. It reduces fat by accelerating the body’s natural processes. Kybella is the first, and only FDA-approved injectable medication to remove fat in the chin and neck area.
Kybella can benefit both patients who are trying to control their weight and patients who are at a healthy weight but have some chin fat that won’t go away.
What Is a Kybella Treatment Like?
Kybella is a non-invasive treatment administered as a series of injections. The exact number of injections required depends on the patient’s needs. Your doctor will discuss the program and what results you can expect before administering Kybella.
Injections are performed in the doctor’s office and take only 15-20 minutes. A numbing cream will be used to reduce discomfort, and the doctor will inject Kybella into your neck and chin area with a small needle. The amount used depends on your doctor’s evaluation, but generally two to three vials are injected during each session.
Kybella is designed to have no downtime. Some patients do report swelling after the injections, but this goes away quickly. You should begin to see results, including a tighter jawline and less sagging, immediately after your first session. Depending on the patient, more than one session may be required to achieve optimal results.
Kybella destroys fat cells permanently, so there is usually no need to repeat this cosmetic procedure. However, it is still possible for your body to form new fat cells. For efficiency and long-lasting results, Kybella should be accompanied by a change to a healthier diet.
