Before, During and After Ultherapy Treatment
Ultherapy® is an FDA-approved, non-invasive ultrasound treatment to lift and tighten the brow, chin, and neck and to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the chest.
What Are the Initial Steps?
Patients should schedule a consultation with Calabasas Dermatology Center, an Ultherapy provider, to determine if they are a candidate for the procedure based on their skin issues and concerns. No special preparations are required prior to the procedure; however, Dr. Weitzbuch may recommend an over-the-counter or prescription medication to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
What Happens During an Ultherapy Treatment?
The practitioner will start by thoroughly cleansing the area to be treated. Ultrasound gel is then applied to the area, and a smooth treatment applicator is placed against the skin. The practitioner then uses ultrasound imaging to see beneath the skin’s surface in order to determine the correct placement of the targeted ultrasound energy. While the focused ultrasound energy is penetrating deep below the skin, patients may notice slight sensations as the energy stimulates the collagen-building process. Although individual comfort levels vary, the procedure is well-tolerated by most patients, and the sensation is only present when the treatment is being delivered.
The duration of the treatment varies based on the area being treated. The typical chest treatment is completed in approximately 30 minutes. A neck and face treatment may take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.
What to Expect After Ultherapy:
One significant advantage of Ultherapy over a traditional facelift is that it is non-invasive and does not require any downtime. There are no restrictions following treatment, so patients are able to go back to their normal activities right away.
It is normal for the skin to appear slightly flushed immediately following the Ultherapy procedure; however, the redness should go away within a few hours. Any tingling, swelling, or tenderness following an Ultherapy treatment is usually mild and temporary.
In very rare instances, patients may experience temporary numbness or bruising of the treated skin.
