Kybella Treatments to Eliminate Double Chin
The dermatologists at Calabasas Dermatology Center are excited to introduce Kybella – a non-invasive treatment option for double chins – to our patients.
Kybella is a new injectable treatment available at Calabasas Dermatology Center that aims to treat submental fullness (known as double chin). It’s capable of improving chin contouring without the need for surgery and the downsides of any surgical procedure, including recovery time and invasiveness. Kybella was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May of 2015, making Calabasas Dermatology Center one of the first centers in the U.S. to offer this cosmetic treatment.
How does this treatment work?
Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance naturally made in the body used to break down dietary fat. Following 20 clinical studies, involving 2,600 patients over 9 years, Kybella has proven to dissolve submental fat (the cause of double chin) when properly injected in the chin area. Prior to the approval of this treatment, patients typically had to resort to surgery or liposuction to reduce their chin profile.
What causes double chin?
Three major factors can contribute to the appearance of a double chin, including:
- Natural aging
- Weight gain
Kybella is designed to show results, regardless of the reason behind your submental fullness.
How many treatments does it take to see results?
One of our trained experts will administer injections into the fat found under the chin, through a series of treatments that we’ll space no less than one month apart. Once you meet with our team, we’ll tailor a treatment plan that falls in line with your desired outcomes. Thus, the number of treatments can vary, but typically range between 2 – 6.
Are the results permanent?
Since the injectable has just recently been approved, we can’t know for sure if the results are permanent. However, the results we’ve seen thus far suggest that, barring no significant lifestyle changes, our patients should enjoy a life free of their previous double chin. Even patients in the clinical studies who experienced weight gain following treatments did not see the return of their submental fullness.
